3-day workshop for teachers and intervention staff who currently work with English Learners (EL) in grades K-5. This workshop will explore topics such as second language acquisition and native language phonemic transfer, building comprehensible input for EL, the importance of oral language development, developing language forms and conventions, a review of Michigan's 3rd grade reading law, and Individual Reading Instruction Plans (IRIP) for EL. Participants are expected to attend all 3 sessions. Participants will register for the 3 sessions individually. It is strongly recommended that participants have attended Foundations of Working with English Learners prior to the cohort. Participation is free for districts that participate in the Genesee ISD Title III Consortium.
